![]() Metal zippers have polished metal teeth that secure together on the zipper chain. We stock coil zippers in sizes #4.5, #5 and #10. Just note that polyester thread breaks down in the sun, so coil zippers should be kept covered to protect them from UV exposure in outdoor projects. Coil zipper teeth are stronger and more flexible than molded tooth zippers, making them a great choice for indoor and outdoor projects with curves. The teeth are sewn onto the side tape with polyester thread. We stock molded tooth zippers in sizes #5, #10, #12 and #15.Ĭoil zippers feature nylon teeth that, as the name implies, look coiled. Molded tooth zippers are the most common option for marine projects because they’re UV and corrosion resistant. (YKK ® molded tooth zippers are called VISLON ® Lenzip ® doesn't use a special term.) This construction makes them strong and practically weatherproof. The molded tooth zippers we carry are made from DuPont Delrin ® Acetal Resins molded onto zipper tape. Metal zipper sliders are easy to determine because of their appearance, but you will need to match the size of your replacement slider to your metal zipper chain using the same method mentioned previously. Keep reading to learn more about how to do this. So if you have a double-pull slider, you'll need to measure across your zipper teeth to determine the slider size. The number is the most important thing to look for on the back of a zipper slider to determine what size it is.ĭouble-pull sliders will not have numbers on them because of their design. Other times, the letters are simply the manufacturer's batch run or some other designation. ![]() The letter might signify the type of zipper tape the slider is compatible with, like coil or molded tooth. Some sliders might also have letters on the back. The number on the back of the slider indicates the zipper size (5, 10, 12, etc.). These markings can be hard to see, so we recommend using a magnifying glass to make it a little easier. Some zipper sliders are labeled with their size and/or type on the slider itself, and this can be very helpful in determining what size you need to order. The 5 on the YKK slider indicates that it is a size #5. ![]() The number 10 on the back of the slider on the left indicates that it is a size #10 slider.
